For many people, summer is the best time of year. Beautiful sunny days drift calmly into balmy evenings and warm nights that you can enjoy sat outside. The only problem with summer is that it does not last long enough and before you know it an autumnal front has come blustering in. But you can enjoy the sun all year round by taking a winter vacation. Here are a few options open to you.
Argentina
A standard hotel in Argentina will offer plenty of home comforts like satellite television and wireless internet fast enough to handle demanding usage such as playing on online gaming sites. The best bit is that you get all these facilities at a good price thanks to the well publicized financial problems in the country, which result in very favourable exchange rates for Western visitors. Located way down in the southern hemisphere, Argentina enjoys a very warm summer between the months of December and February. During this time people from across the country flock to Mar del Plata, where you can find some of the most popular beaches in South America.
Puerto Rico
Often cited as being one of the happiestcountries on earth, Puerto Rico has a lot to offer visitors as well as its permanent inhabitants. Much of the contentment in Puerto Rico may be owing to the fact that the country is located in the tropics, which means that it is basically summer all year round; however, temperatures are just about perfect between October and December. Without doubt, the main draw of the island nation is the abundance of beaches. Some of the best include Flamenco, El Morro and Condado. As well as the coastline, cycling in the area is very popular. Puerto Rico has perfect riding conditions, great views and excellent links to Dominican Republic, another beautiful island in the region.
Thailand
Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is not just a sunny getaway, the region is also a paradise for fun lovers. Beach parties are common place, with the infamous Full Moon parties of Koh Phangan among the most popular. Another major draw of this part of the world is that things tend to be rather cheap; a far cry from the many seasonal expenses we have back home. You can enjoy inexpensive accommodation, food and drink, while transport is also very reasonable. The weather is generally warm and dry any time between November and June.
Antarctica
While you’re unlikely to find soaring temperatures in icy Antarctica; however, if you go during summer you will get plenty of sun. Every year, between the months of December and March, the region experiences the Midnight Sun. This is a phenomenon that creates 24 hours of continuous daylight in the coldest continent on Earth. There are plenty of other natural wonders in Antarctica too, such as untouched scenery, huge ice islands and unique wildlife. The journey to reach this most southerly of continents involves a rough sea crossing but the trip is more than worth it thanks to the ultimate winter experience it offersDisclosure: In collaboration with Sophie Davidson
