New Dr. Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector Microfibre Sheets

$

I admit that I'm a housewife who's not fantastic at housework, and I'm definitely not one who knows exactly what to use to clean up what type of stain. So it's great that there are companies out there who create products to make housework much simpler, so people like me can spend the time to do something more fun instead.

One thing I will do when it comes to laundry though, is to split the clothes up. I had experienced bright coloured clothes covered in grey stains from the black colour clothes before (especially on Abby's school uniform), so I rather it not happen again. At one point I even split my laundry in 3 loads - white, colour and black. But with the kids being so young and there are only 4 of us, there is hardly any clothes in each load, and by the time we ran out of clothes to wear, I still haven't gathered a full load for washing. Thing is, I rather fill the washing machine up a bit as I'd hate to spend equal amount of water and electricity to wash a few items only. Now I just keep 2 loads of washing, one light and one dark, and cross my fingers every time I wash the dark load, hoping that the coloured clothes wouldn't turn too dull.

I've discovered colour collecting sheets since, and have religiously added a sheet in my washing, but I'm not really convinced. It might have helped a bit according to the stains on the sheet, but our coloured clothes doesn't look that much brighter either.

I was recommended to watch fellow mum blogger Jen Walshaw from Mum in the Mad House YouTube clips, as she has tested out the new Dr. Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector Mircrofibre Sheets, which could be a better choice than the one I'm using.

I'm so glad that I have watched Jen's tests, especially the second one. It's amazing how the coloured water gets lighter and lighter as the microfibre sheet absorbs all the colour. I've seen similar tests performed on TV adverts but I never believe them as they are adverts. Jen's test is real enough for me! I really should do a similar test on the one I've been using and see whether it work as well as Dr. Beckmann's. If it's no where as good as Dr. Beckmann's, I'll be swapping brand for sure.

Deciding on the Perfect Winter Vacation

(Guest Post)

For many people, summer is the best time of year. Beautiful sunny days drift calmly into balmy evenings and warm nights that you can enjoy sat outside. The only problem with summer is that it does not last long enough and before you know it an autumnal front has come blustering in. But you can enjoy the sun all year round by taking a winter vacation. Here are a few options open to you.

Argentina
A standard hotel in Argentina will offer plenty of home comforts like satellite television and wireless internet fast enough to handle demanding usage such as playing on online gaming sites. The best bit is that you get all these facilities at a good price thanks to the well publicized financial problems in the country, which result in very favourable exchange rates for Western visitors. Located way down in the southern hemisphere, Argentina enjoys a very warm summer between the months of December and February. During this time people from across the country flock to Mar del Plata, where you can find some of the most popular beaches in South America.

Puerto Rico
Often cited as being one of the happiestcountries on earth, Puerto Rico has a lot to offer visitors as well as its permanent inhabitants. Much of the contentment in Puerto Rico may be owing to the fact that the country is located in the tropics, which means that it is basically summer all year round; however, temperatures are just about perfect between October and December. Without doubt, the main draw of the island nation is the abundance of beaches. Some of the best include Flamenco, El Morro and Condado. As well as the coastline, cycling in the area is very popular. Puerto Rico has perfect riding conditions, great views and excellent links to Dominican Republic, another beautiful island in the region.

Thailand
Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is not just a sunny getaway, the region is also a paradise for fun lovers. Beach parties are common place, with the infamous Full Moon parties of Koh Phangan among the most popular. Another major draw of this part of the world is that things tend to be rather cheap; a far cry from the many seasonal expenses we have back home. You can enjoy inexpensive accommodation, food and drink, while transport is also very reasonable. The weather is generally warm and dry any time between November and June.

Antarctica
While you’re unlikely to find soaring temperatures in icy Antarctica; however, if you go during summer you will get plenty of sun. Every year, between the months of December and March, the region experiences the Midnight Sun. This is a phenomenon that creates 24 hours of continuous daylight in the coldest continent on Earth. There are plenty of other natural wonders in Antarctica too, such as untouched scenery, huge ice islands and unique wildlife. The journey to reach this most southerly of continents involves a rough sea crossing but the trip is more than worth it thanks to the ultimate winter experience it offers

Chill Factore Mini Moose Land and Snow Park

Chill Factor, Indoor Snow, Chilld Factore Mini Moose Land

I'm not really an active person, especially when it comes to sports, but my hubby is and the kids seem to be overcharged with energy all the time, so even though I'm more than happy to just sit at home and do nothing, we do try to take the kids out often.

We have heard of Chill Factore (we always thought that it was spelled Chill Factor!) before, but we've never been as I kept thinking that it's not something for us (I mean me obviously. The others have been trying to convince me to go for a while now). We went there eventually for the first time last weekend, thanks to their PR who has kindly booked us in for a session of Snow Park and Mini Moose Land fun! I had no idea that they have so much to do for children, and even I found it fun! This is why I love blogging so much, you get to try things you think you don't like, and be amazed with how much you actually do.

Chill Factor, Indoor Snow, Chilld Factore Mini Moose Land

Chill Factore indoor snow area is split roughly into 2 sections - the main slope (skiing and snowboarding) and Snow Park plus Mini Moose Land. Mini Moose Land was launched in July for toddlers under 4, which is a fantastic addition for the younger ones, making Chill Factore suitable for everyone in the family.

For Snow park and Mini Moose Land, it cost £6 per person (applicable to adults and children) per hour session. You can also hire jackets and pants for £4 each item (or bring your own), and buy other accessories such as baby mittens as well. Shoes (with fleece socks, they felt amazing and the boots are really light!) and helmets (required for Snow Park area, not necessary for Mini Moose Land) are available for hire for free.

We arrived Chill Factore early (surprisingly), but because of the time spent finding a parking space (people just stand there chit chatting instead of moving on!), queuing at the reception, waiting for jackets and pants, and shoes and helmets, we ended up being late for our session. So do make sure that you arrive around 20 to 30 minutes earlier so you'll have plenty of time to get ready and not miss any of the fun time.

Oh, and also mention to your children that they will be there for an hour, not the whole day, to avoid disappointments. Abby thought that she can spend the whole day in the cold (yea right!) so instead of learning how to Skii like she was planning to, she ended up spending half the time in Mini Moose Land because she was having too much fun. By the time she wanted to skii it was already time to go. I wouldn't advice booking 2 hour session for the younger kids though, it does get really cold in there the longer you stay.

Chill Factor, Indoor Snow, Chilld Factore Mini Moose Land

I've never really checked out how big inside is, so I was surprised that they had so much to do for the kids. Not only do they have the fun slides, there is also a good section of slope for beginners to learn how to snowboard and/ or ski.

The Mini Moose Land, a dedicated area for children under 4, was launched since this July. I think it's a great idea as young children shouldn't be left out from the fun, and families with both older and younger children can visit without worrying about childcare.

There is plenty to do for the younger ones - soft play toys, tea party inside the house, slides, carousel ride and a mini slope too. The floor is packed with powdery snow and it brought the mischievous side out of me and hubby. The kids didn't stand a chance!

The carousel is operated once every 10 minutes or so, but because it can only accommodate 4 children each turn, Clay managed to miss the ride twice and he went "Awww!" dramatically (with a grin on his face though. He's my little drama king). The operating staff was really kind and gave him a VIP ride before he had to leave for a children's party.

Chill Factor, Indoor Snow, Chilld Factore Mini Moose Land

While I was looking after Clay at Mini Moose Land, hubby took Abby up the Snow Park for the Downhill Donut and Huge Slip n' Slide rides (this was before they joined us). Abby asked me whether I heard her screaming when she came down the smooth slide! The bumpy one was slower and she said she preferred that, even though it was very bumpy!

Overall, we had a great time in Chill Factore. I do think that one hour is about right for our kids. They started to shiver and our own gloves won't stay on. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back again, especially when the price is more reasonable than I thought! They also provide ski lessons too, so maybe we'll bring Abby back for that while Clay plays in Mini Moose Land.

I think the only down side is that Mini Moose Land is a bit too dark. I'm not sure whether it's to protect young children's eyes from the brightness, but it can definitely do with a little more brighter in that area.

Octonauts 2014, Octonauts Live Show, Octonauts and th Deep Sea Volcano Adventure Live Ticket Giveaway

This has to be one of the most exciting news for Clay this year! His favourite show Octonauts (CBeebies program) is going live and will be touring the UK from Thursday 16th October, 2014 and into 2015! It is produced by the team behind the 3 successful Peppa Pig stage shows, as well as Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Live, which we've really enjoyed, so I am expecting it to be really good as well!

Clay is a big Octonauts fan, he loves taking his Gup A to bed (even though it's hard and rough for cuddling), and a few of the crew members in his pocket for school runs! He's going to love the live show, which is about the entire crew of the Octonauts embarking on an exciting new underwater quest, visiting amazing underwater worlds full of adventure with surprises around every corner.

The action-packed interactive show features new music (from BAFTA-award winning composer Mani Svavarsson) and all the Octonauts live on stange for the very first time. We'll be watching Octonauts Live in November when they visit Birmingham. If you have a little fan as well, tickets are on sale now, and tour dates information are available as well, which you can find on their website www.octonautslive.co.uk.

CBeebies Sweet Dreams with Squidge Review and Competition

CBeebies, Sweet Dreams with Squidge, CBeebies Bed Time

(Apologies if the font size is too small, Blogger is changing my settings and I'm trying to work it out)

When CBeebies launched their own mascot (I think they are kind of a mascot?) that looked like blobs of wobbly yellow jelly, we fell in love with it. They are so cute and when they wobbles, I (I'm not sure how the kids felt) secretly felt like wobbling along with them too! I did take a mental note to keep an eye on the merchandise release, which I thought would be the squishy pillow the presenters were cuddling, but I waited and waited and then it was forgotten.

Apparently they are called Bugbies, and when I received an email about an opportunity to review one of CBeebies Sweet Dreams with Squidge, my desire to own one has been relighted! Of course, I'm sure at least one, if not both, of my child will love it as much as I do, so I have the perfect reason to review it (It's not for me! Honest!).

CBeebies, Sweet Dreams with Squidge, CBeebies Bed Time

CBeebies, Sweet Dreams with Squidge, CBeebies Bed Time

CBeebies Sweet Dreams with Squidge (rrp £19.99) is an extremely soft cuddly toy that measures approximately 9.5 inches tall, is suitable for children aged 10 months+ and comes with 3 AAA batteries. When the stars on the bottom right of Squidge is pressed, it will play CBeebies' bed time song (The Time has Come, to Say Good Night...) and glows softly in different colours. He will stop when being pressed again while playing. There is an on/ off switch on the battery pack located at the back of Squidge as well.

When Abby saw Squidge she sounded interested, but then claimed that she's too old for Squidge. Fair enough. Clay's reaction was completely different and he's claimed Squidge his immediately, and would press the stars to listen to the song and watch the changing lights over and over again. He did relate Squidge to Christmas because of the lights, which I think gives the same soothing effect (I'm actually looking forward to putting up our Christmas tree!).

You can see Squidge in action in the above video. He is very Christmassy isn't he! I think he'll be perfect if there is a volume setting (normal and low) as he can be a bit loud (he woke hubby up in the middle of the night when he accidentally pressed Squidge haha). Other than that he's a softy that both me and Clay loves (he won't let me have Squidge!).

If you or your child love Squidge too, here is a chance for you to win one of two CBeebies Sweet Dream with Squidge toy! Simply enter the Rafflecopter below. Good luck! x

Takeaway.com Takeaway Service

$

Having lived in our current area for four years, we still haven't discovered most of the places or eatery in the neighbourhood. We do love trying out new things, so occasionally I would visit Tripadvisor for ideas, mainly on a special occasion when we want something different and not minding to splurge a little (highly recommended eatery tend to be a bit pricier). For takeaways/ deliveries, we tend to stick to our favourite ones, though this doesn't mean that we should stop exploring.

When we were approached by takeaway.com to try out their service, we found that there are 11 takeaways nearby, and none of them we've tried before. So I thought, why not?

The website is very easy to use, although I found the Refined Search by type of food a bit useless as most of the takeaways are listed under every category. I'm not sure whether takeaway.com have a screening procedure in place, but I'm guessing that when takeaway owners filled in the form to register their takeaway on the site, some would have claimed that they belong to every category to optimise their exposure.

It was a bit difficult to select which takeaway to go for, as they practically do exactly the same food. The list of choices for each menu are much longer than usual, as the same dish will appear a few times on the list, but cooked with a different type of meat. I guess it shortens the amount of steps required to add a dish to the shopping basket.

Hubby went for Addlington Spice at the end, as it has the highest Hygiene rating, but we made a mistake by assuming that all takeaways listed under our post code search are within delivery distance, especially when they stated that the delivery is free. According to reviews (which we should have checked before ordering), Addlington Spice is no where near us. Apparently a lot of peoople have experienced cold food delivered after an hour or two from ordering because of that.

So we decided to whip up a quick dinner (involving instant soup and buttered bread...) for the kids as it was already close to bed time. An hour after we ordered the food, we decided to ring them directly. They sounded like they were a bit baffled as to why we ordered a delivery from them as they were no where near us. Eventually they told hubby that they will deliver, which didn't happen until another hour later. It wasn't that bad anymore after we expected the order to be late, and I guess we were lucky that the food was still warm when they've arrived.

I'm not sure whether it was Addlington Spice who claimed that they will deliver that far, or takeaway.com has made a mistake by including them under our radar, but no customers should wait for 2 hours for their food to deliver. If the food was horrible, which we've experienced before, we would have been furious. It was good that the food was actually worth the wait, and hubby said that he would order from them again, but we will have to order around 4pm and ask them to deliver as soon as possible, then expect for a 2 hour delivery and hopefully the food will arrive in time.

I think having a website that shows you what takeaways are nearby can be very handy, and it gives smaller takeaways an opportunity to be discovered by people who normally go for takeaways that's around the corner. But I think that takeaway.com should at least make sure that each registered takeaway are within distance (or at least let customers know that a wait is to be expected) and are listed under the correct category, to avoid disappointment and make takeaway.com a better website to use. After all, we are paying them 50p per order for their service.

In this case, we have discovered a takeaway that's really good (no pictures taken unfortunately, as we were so hungry we scoffed everything down before I remembered about taking pictures), but we would have appreciated it more if we were given a pre-warning on takeaway.com that the takeaway is quite far away and a wait is expected.

Disclosure: Our meal was subsidised by takeaway.com so that we can try out their service; all opinions are honest and our own

Help available to get you on the first rung of the property ladder

With the average age of first time buyers pushing 30 years old, and many turning to the Bank of Mum and Dad for assistance, how can people realistically get on to the first rung of the property ladder?

The Government’s answer to the problem was to introduce the Help to Buy scheme, which was launched in April 2013. It offered Government-backed assistance to first-time buyers and those moving up to a larger property.

The Money Advice Service hosts detailed information about the Help to Buy scheme, and how you can access it as a first time buyer.

According to What Mortgage, in March 2014, the average first time buyer deposit reached £27,500. The Help to Buy scheme can help ‘top up’ deposits to enable people to reach the required down-payment. There are two ways in which the scheme can work:

Equity loan - The Government lends you up to a fifth of the value of a new-build home. Like other loans, this money is repayable and full details can be found at www.gov.uk

Mortgage guarantee – The Government guarantees part of your mortgage if you only have a small deposit (at least 5%). This guarantee applies to both new and pre-owned homes

Both of these schemes are time-limited, with the equity loan scheme intended to run until 2020 and the mortgage guarantee scheme running to 2016 – although either scheme could be withdrawn earlier.
There are other alternatives if you’re looking for your first home, such as shared ownership, in which you pay a mortgage on part of the property and rent on the rest. Details of schemes vary and you do have the option to increase your share in the property over time.

You may also qualify for ‘key worker’ schemes if you work in certain sectors. Schemes vary from place to place, but generally those roles which qualify include teaching, nursing, fire and police services. Your local authority can let you know whether you qualify and which schemes are operating near you.

Some developers also offer incentives and deals for first time buyers, but again these vary widely and range from the provision of ‘extras’ such as carpets and fittings, to help with Stamp Duty and everything in between.

Whichever route you take, buying your first home is probably the biggest financial commitment you’ll make and it’s worth taking time to plan it and understand the full costs. Some websites offer useful online mortgage calculators, which can help you make sure you’re accounting for everything.

Clarisonic New LUXE Brush Heads

Clarisonic LUXE brush head, facial brush, soft facial brush

I've been using Clarisonic Sonic Skincare system - Aria for a while now. I don't use it every day as I don't wear makeup often and my skin is fairly sensitive to the brushing, even though their brush heads are very soft. It's still an important part of my skincare routine and I use it once or twice a week. My face feel especially clean the night and day after using Aria, and I do wish that I can feel like that every day.

Clarisonic has just launched their new LUXE brush head range and have kindly sent me their Satin Precision brush head to try with my Clarisonic Aria. I'm so thankful of this brush head because it has granted me my wish and I can now use Clarisonic Aria to clean my face every day!

Clarisonic LUXE brush head, facial brush, soft facial brush

Clarisonic LUXE brush head, facial brush, soft facial brush

There are 3 brush heads in the new Clarisonic LUXE brush head range, each are retailed at £25.00 (£4 difference from the original brush heads):

Cashmere Cleanse - uniquely designed with ultra-soft bristles, it effectively cleanses skin with extreme fluid action. it will gently but powerfully cleanse even the driest and most mature skin types

Satin Precision - Specifically designed for targeted areas of facial contour. Users will enjoy using this brush for gentle cleansing around the most delicate area of the face

Velvet Foam (Body Brush) - specially designed for use on the body, this brush will heighten the cleansing experience through a unique massaging, high foaming action to leave skin hydrated and perfectly cleansed.

I chose their Satin Precision brush head to try as I have been looking for their most delicate brush head, and skin around my nose area tend to get really sensitive after cleansing (a mask after the cleansing always stings me around that area).

The brush head came in a little box (which I think is cute, though the design definitely reflect their luxuriousness), and comes with a brush head cover just like all their other brush heads. It has duo length bristles which is extremely soft, and as soon as I touched them, I couldn't let go! It was like stroking a baby rabbit! Sometimes brushes feel soft on the hand but prickly on the face. The Satin Precision is still as soft as a fluffy pet on the face, which is just amazing! I had to ask them whether they do makeup brushes as well, as I would love to buy them!

When used with Clarisonic Aria, it felt like feathers sweeping across my face, and I felt absolutely pampered. I think I'll try the Cashmere Cleanse next for a deep clean, purely because Satin Precision felt so delicate on my face, it made me wonder whether it cleanse the thicker areas of my skin as well as it does on my most delicate areas. I really wouldn't mind swapping brush heads for the cleanse to give me a full pampering session that doesn't take long anyway!

If you like Clarisonic's delicate brush heads, you must try their LUXE range brush heads!

Lately I've been into pampering myself and I'm more aware of hair styles and beauty products, maybe because Clay is older and I have more time to spend on myself! I was that teen who love to collect makeup and perfumes, but ever since I became a mum my priority has shifted, so it's good to have some of the old me back! I have been looking at gorgeous dresses as well, but I just don't have the body to wear them!

Because of my new hobby, I started to look at things differently. Have you seen Cheryl on the new X Factor? She is so pretty! To be honest I'm happy to see her and Simon back, the show just isn't the same without them! I wonder which team she'll get to mentor and whether they will win? We don't really gamble but we don't mind a harmless game of "guess who will win this year" every now and then. Of course we won't get the children involved as I don't want them to start being judgmental this early.

But every person have their opinion and I really like how Cheryl looks. Her makeup and style reminds me a bit of my current favourite Youtuber Jen frmheadtotoe (although I think her smokey eyes look is a bit more natural), who has inspired me so much that I have a shopping list based on her favourite products! I thought it would be fun to do a post on what I would wear (if I can), inspired by Cheryl and Jen:

Makeup (top to bottom, left to right):
  • Bare Minerals Mineral Foundation
  • Bare Minerals Mineral Veil
  • Makeup Forever Full Cover Liquid Concealer
  • Em Cosmetics Chiaroscuro Contour & Highlighter Stick
  • Benefit Coralista Coral Blush
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
  • Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette
  • Shara Shara Color Eyes Stick Shadow
  • Royal Nature Pantone Shadowliner
  • Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer
  • Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder
Plus false eyelashes, an area where I have to do more research on!

Just a few more products and my collection will be complete! I'll be trying out some of Jen's tutorials, but I don't think I'll want to put on so much like Cheryl did, she had to to look good on TV, I don't. I love Jen's choices of products, some I heard lots of good things about from others as well, and I've added a few of my current favourites too. I should really do a full makeup on my face to show you but I don't have everything and I'm camera shy!

For some reason the Korean style gradient lips really appeal to me, but it's more for an every day occasion. If I'm going to an event or party, I'd still go for a fully beautified lips.

I love both Cheryl and Jen's wavy curls! I wanted to get a Japanese permanent curl (not perm, but the one that uses the same technology as the Japanese permanent hair straightening), but people told me that it's still high maintenance and it's better that I curl whenever I want to. So now I just use the following products to style my hair:

Hair:

T3 SinglePass Hairstraightener
TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray
LOreal Paris Elnett Flexible Hold Hair Spray

It's not ideal and the curls are smaller than I want but I guess that will have to do. I will be doing more research on how to make those big wavy curls though!

On a side note, I absolutely love my new T3 SinglePass hairstraightener! it glides down my hair smoothly and effortlessly! A great buy I must say!

Outfit:

ASOS Dolphin Lace Hem Dress
Ganni Katia Suede Ankle Strapped Heeled Court Shoes

As I said before, I don't really have the body for a good outfit, but I saw the above on ASOS website and I just love how they pair! If only if I can pull it off.. #MustWorkHarder

Products above either already belong to me or are on my wishlist. Apart from the outfit. I'll only get them if I can slim down. And even then, I have to find a cheaper alternative to the £170 shoes! For now, I just have to be realistic and get something more suitable for me.

What about you, what's your favourite fashion and beauty products, and do you prefer Cheryl or Mel B's style?

Planning our Dream Holiday with Amadeus.Net

You may have seen my previous posts about a dream holiday, which I'm still working on (no harm spending a bit more time browsing around!). While I was struggling to put a plan for our holiday together (papers, saved links and spreadsheets everywhere!), I was introduced to Amadeus.Net, which is a website that help people create their holiday plan. It's almost like they knew exactly what I need!

Amadeus.Net is still a fairly new website, and they are looking for more people to create plans on their site so that they can make improvements, and ultimately providing the best service out there for people who are planning for their holidays. I gave it a try, and although it's not perfect just yet, I can see a lot of potential to come!

To make sure that your plan is saved and not disappear, you'll need to create an account with them first. It's really easy to open an account, and you can even do it by registering using Facebook details. You can then change your details under your profile if you wish.

It's very easy to create a plan then. You just need to click on the big red button on the top right corner, which is very easy to spot as the website's main colour is blue. You can then create a name for your plan, and add a description and a picture for it so you can identify your plan easily. If you don't mind to open your plan to public, which helps others create a quick plan for their holiday by copying the basic of your plan, simply change the plan from Private to Public. It helps others to search (by destination orinspiration) for your plan by adding a few tags on, so for example my Dream Holiday plan has the tag beach, sea, sand and tropical on, so if anyone is looking for something similar using the tags, they will see my plan, and it might just inspire someone to go to where we will (hopefully) be!

Once the plan is created, you can start adding your research on the plan. This includes flight details, which you can search using Amadeus.Net's flight search function. You can then add the flight plans you are interested in considering by clicking on the add to plan button. Note that you can't buy a ticket off Amadeus.Net, but they can direct you easily to the booking site for the flight and price you are interested in.

You can also add links to websites relevant to your holiday plan under the Links section of your plan. This is really helpful to me as I have links everywhere and even though I can add them to a Bookmark folder in my browser, I still have to go to it separately. Here, everything is in the same place so it's much easier for me. I can also add Travel Notes on the side. I like to write things down, especially for things to do. If I need a break from planning our holiday, I just need to leave myself a note and I can pick up where I left without wondering what I have done and what else I need to do.

We normally don't plan our holidays fully, and we tend to miss a lot of details. Amadeus.Net provides Trip Tools as well to help us check all the smaller details that will make the planning as perfect as possible. The currency, convertion and weather will definitely be used! i think if they can include a Special Day tool as well, which list out the public holidays, festivals and events, it would be even more useful as we always miss special days happening in places we visit. A Tourist Must Visit tool would be amazing as well! See, I told you that their website have a lot of potential to grow!

The website is still fairly new as mentioned before, and you might occasionally get stuck (I've feedbacked this to them), so any feedback to them will be great, so that they can make the site better. I think that the site is really helpful and I can put things together nice and clearly instead of scribbling it down on a notebook. I heard that they will be adding a Hotels section soon too! Hope that they'll keep up the good work and help us make holiday planning much easier!

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon Family (of 4) Ticket Giveaway

Since very young, no matter how scared I was, I like listening to scary stories, let it be supernatural or historical. Obviously I love to watch horror movies, but I also enjoy picking out scary history from places, for example, the 4 star hotel we visited for our anniversary, or even Longleat House that we went to recently. I always wondered what is lurking underneath a church, or even the sectioned off floor in Madame Tussauds Museum in Blackpool.

The first time I visited the UK, my family here took me to see the London Dungeon. They knew me well! I wasn't (and still not) very good at understanding spoken English, but I kind of understood that there was some sort of disease (plague) that caused blood vomitting (the London Dungeon was very graphic about that), and a serial killer was killing women. I was a bit spooked but I enjoyed the tour very much!

Ever since we had kids however, we avoid going to the Dungeons, as we don't normally go to places without our children, and they are just too young for it. It is a shame as I've never been to the Blackpool Tower Dungeon before, which is the nearest to us now.

But that doesn't mean that I would pass on a chance to give away a family of 4 ticket to one of you and send you on your way to have some frightening fun!

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon gives you a 60 minutes tour to relive a 1000 years of Lancashire's murky past. It has 10 shows acted out by brilliant actors, a drop ride, rich sets and special effects. I've checked out Lancashire's stories and it's pretty dark, so this should be good! I was looking around their website for more information, and found a personality test to see how suitable you are to visit the Blackpool Tower Dungeon. I took the test and only scored 52%! It told me to "bring a friend... or cuddly toy" *felt insulted but knew it's true*.

So to make this giveaway a bit more fun, I'm going to ask you to take the test and tell me what you score, and what the test suggest as well. As it's a giveaway, there is no right or wrong answer, and you don't even have to do it, but it's really fun and I would love to see your results!

For those who took the test, I'll be giving you an extra entry to the giveaway for effort. This will be checked obviously. Have fun and good luck! x

London What to Do - Sing-a-Long-a-Frozen

We don't always go to London for a few days trip, but we did during the Summer holidays and went to the Kew Gardens I recommended in my previous London What to Do post! It was beautiful and really worth spending a day there.

My favourite place to go in London is still their city centre though. Apart from shopping in the high streets, there is so much more to do especially for children, and now for those who absolutely love the Disney movie Frozen too!

Since it first came out, Abby and Clay have both been Disney Frozen's little fans. Even Clay can sing-a-long to the Frozen songs, and they both love to act out the scenes! I found a gorgeous Elsa dress for Abby, and Clay has been saying: "My turn! My turn!" as he wanted to wear the dress as well!

We knew that there was a Sing-a-Long version of the movie, but I didn't realise that it's still showing in London City Centre! It's showing until the 25th October 2014 at Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square, so if you have a little fan, you should definitely take them to the Sing-a-Long-a-Frozen, before it's too late.

If you aren't from London and would like to make a weekend trip for this, have a look at my recommendation below to help you with your planning.

Sight Seeing:

Image from www.freshlysocial.com/
There is a LOT of tourist areas in central London, including the Tower of London, Big Ben, London Eye, etc that is a must see if you haven't yet. If you aren't too bothered about visiting the places individually, a guided cruise ride along the River Thames allow you to see them all in one ride.

Me and hubby are big Phantom of the Opera fans, and when we watched the 25th Anniversary in Albert Hall version again on TV, Abby and Clay has shown a lot of interest. If you think that your child might like a musical theatre show, but worry that Phantom of the Opera is a bit too dark and sad (Abby said that I lied as not every story has a happy ending after all!), there is the new Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical showing at the Drury lane Theatre Royal that they might like instead.

Image from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/

You have to visit the Natural History Museum if you visit London with children. There is a lot to see, experience and learn, and I have no doubt that they will enjoy spending their time there.

Eat and Drink:

Okay I might be a bit biased here, but I love exploring restaurants (not limited to Chinese cuisine) in China Town. The food we had at Little Korea (authentic, proven by the number of Koreans visiting) in China Town was amazing, and I was certainly glad that we visited as I've never tried Korean Cuisine before, and I now know that I love their food and will certainly have it again.

Even if you don't fancy having a meal in China Town, I highly recommend BoBa Jam bubble tea and Asian dessert shop located on the outer edge of China Town, which Eileen from ET Speaks from Home took me to on a super hot day after Britmums Live event. Unlike other bubble tea shops, you get to enjoy other type of desserts, and there are a huge variety of bubble tea, that comes with all sorts. I recommend their QQ Jelly on Peach Slush with Milk Pudding on a hot day, and their Okinawa Bubble Tea for any other day. They do savoury snacks too, so there is a bit of everything for everyone.

Accommodation:

Montcalm at The Brewery, London
If you don't mind to splash out a bit on accommodation, there are a lot of choices around London, varying from modern to heritage. I must say though, unless you are going to spend a lot of time in the room, it would most likely be money wasted. If you are going to be out and about most of the time, I would suggest the more affordable hotels like Holiday Inn London - Kensington Forum or Holiday Inn London - Mayfair, and spend the money on fun or food.

London can be a hectic place to go to, especially with young children, but there are so much to see and do for them as well that it would be a shame to not bring them there. If you plan it carefully and not restricting yourself to tight schedule, adding plenty of time for travels (as walking from one place to another can be very tiring for children) and be forgiving for last minute changes, the trip to London with children can still be enjoyable.

Elmo and Cookie Monster on CBeebies

Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

We've secretly attended an event back in May, and I can finally tell you all about it! We met the super famous Elmo and Cookie Monster, and the cast of the Furchester Hotel!

Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

It was our first time visiting the Media City, and we were well impressed! We were fascinated by the massive window stickers on BBC's building, and luckily because of that, we found our way to the correct building! The kids were really excited when they saw The Furchester Hotel sticker on the building and couldn't wait to go inside and see what was in store for us.

Sooo FLUFFYYYY!!!
Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

The first part of the event involves pictures with Elmo and Cookie Monster! The 2 big stars are finally here on CBeebies! When Sesame Tree (do you remember?) was showing, I did wonder why the actual Sesame Street stars never visited (although clips of Sesame Street was shown). So it's very exciting to see a new show on CBeebies that actually involves the all time favourite Elmo and Cookie Monster themselves! Elmo and Cookie Monster were really adorable and have been giving the kids massive fluffy hugs (some kids disappeared completely in it)!

The kids also enjoyed a bit of colouring and taking pictures in the photo booth (I packed the picture away by accident while packing for our move!).

Sesame Street, #Furchester Hotel on CBeebies, Elmo and Cookie Monster

We then moved on into a function room to have a lovely snack, while the kids busied themselves with a CBeebies magazine each. We were then greeted with our second surprise of the day:

Pictures with the actual celebrities!
A VIP meet and greet with the main Furchester Hotel cast! We were all surprised and excited to meet them up close, especially the actual Elmo (Ryan Dillon) and Cookie Monster (David Rudman) who came all the way from America!! Wow wow! It really felt like meeting the world's most famous celebrity! The UK and US top puppeteers were amazing! Some puppets took 2 person to control, and the puppeteers co-ordinated so well that the puppets moved naturally even during the unplanned conversations with the children!

We've met:

Funella Furchester (Louise Gold) - Furchester Hotel owner
Furgus Fuzz (Andrew Spooner) - Funella's husband (Abby missed a picture with him, doh!)
Phoebe Furchester-Fuzz (Sarah Burgess) - Funella and Furgus' daughter

The story goes that Elmo came to the hotel to visit his cousin Phoebe, while Cookie Monster landed himself his dream job in the hotel - room service and dining room waiter (I don't think there are many cookies around to be served to the guests!). They encounter many different guests and as their family motto is "A Furchester never gives up!", they try all sorts to solve problems and please their guests.

We also watched an episode of unfinished (which made it even more special!) The Furchester hotel and we loved it! We are really looking forward to the launch of the series on CBeebies this Friday 26th September 2014, and to make sure that she won't miss an episode, Abby has asked us to record the whole series for her!

As if this wasn't VIP enough, the producers have granted us a VIP tour to see the filming and visit the actual Furchester Hotel set! The set was very detailed and beautiful, and really really high! I was impressed that they have put so much effort into producing a children's show. The children might not necessary spot some of the details but they still put a 100% into creating the set.

According to the producers, it was specially built on top of a platform so that the puppeteers can work on set with a bit more ease. Apparently some puppet show sets weren't built on top of a platform and the puppeteers have to lie down on the floor to act!

You can see a picture of the set with the platform here on CBeebies Blog for Grown Ups, and a Q & A with one of the producer Dionne, who was ever so lovely to chat to on the day. I'll be looking out for the "AMs" on the show!

We are really glad that we were given the opportunity to meet the cast and see the set. It gave us the opportunity to see what went behind the scene, and allowed the kids to learn the amount of work needed for a 10 minutes episode. It was definitely an eye opening experience for eberyone.

Remember, The Furchester Hotel will be showing on CBeebies this Friday 26th September 2014 at 5pm. If you are a Sesame Street fan, or your child loves Elmo and/ or Cookie Monster, this is definitely the show to catch!

My Friend Cayla

My friend Cayla, technology toy, Toy of the year 2014

Abby, although girly, was never really into dolls. She adores them, but she's more into a real two-way interaction. When I told her that I've met a really awesome interactive doll at the London Toy Fair, she was skeptical, but was more than happy to attend Cayla's special tea party at Hamley's back in July.

Although the Cayla we met at the party was only a demo version, Abby seemed to be impressed by her and was glad to see her own Cayla moving in. We played with her occasionally during this last month, and we finally understood Cayla enough for me to write this review up.

Note:

As Cayla is a toy with a brand new concept, it took us a bit of time to understand her and find the best way to play with her. This is not to say that Cayla is a difficult toy to master, but it is easy for both adults and children to misunderstood Cayla as an AI (artificial Intelligence) doll that can comment on how pretty you are today, or see (as far as we know, Cayla does not carry a camera anywhere on her) what you are doing, for example. To avoid disappointment, it is important to understand Cayla before you start playing with her.

If you are buying Cayla for your child, please do read the following review, and read the app description before explaining to your child what Cayla can and cannot do, so that your child knows exactly what to expect from Cayla.

My friend Cayla, technology toy, Toy of the year 2014

Introduction:

My Friend Cayla is an interactive doll suitable for children aged 4 years+, and is retailed at £59.99. She comes with a hair brush and mirror, takes 3 AAA batteries to operate, and works with iOS and Android free app through Bluetooth. There are 4 versions of the free app (on Android, I'm not sure about iOS), each in a different language. Every Cayla doll will work with any one of these apps, but one app at a time.

There is an on/ off button located at Cayla's back, which should be turned off when she's not in use to preserve battery (her necklace will make a short musical tune to alert you that her battery is low). A speaker is also located on her tummy.

Cayla as a Doll:

Cayla herself  is a beautiful doll. Children can play with her just like they would with any other dolls, and her hair brush and mirror certainly came in handy. As we didn't want to risk Cayla getting a bad hair day, I gave her French Plaits, which gave her the loveliest wavy hair. We think that Cayla looks absolutely gorgeous in those curls!

Her clothes are well made, although we would really like to see more accessories for her.

App:

Bottom right: Settings
3 different game styles
Session paused
To operate Cayla through the app:

first switch your gadget (tablet or smartphone)'s Bluetooth and Cayla on. Make sure that your gadget is paired with Cayla by checking in your Bluetooth screen (Cayla will act as a speaker as well), then turn on the app.

We've downloaded the free Cayla UK English app on Android, and used my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone to connect with her. Ideally you can find a gadget that is free for your child to use any time, instead of having to lend your most important smartphone to your child!

There are several options on the app's landing page:

Hello! Bubble - listen to Cayla introducing herself
Play/ Pause button - start a Q&A session or chat with Cayla. She is ready to listen after her necklace has turned on then off again, and yourt gadget should vibrate as well to indicate that she's listening
Goodbye Bubble - End the session
Go to Story Time - Cayla tells a story about her and her family
Go to Games - Cayla will play Tic Tac Toe with the player
Go to photo Album - Cayla will talk about her and her family's outings through her photo albums (children can learn new words through this. For example Zoo album shows pictures of animals while Cayla talks about her visit to the zoo)
Settings - This allows you to give Cayla a nickname, ban topics that Cayla should not talk about (she does not talk about politics and religions by default, but will tell you what a Vampire is if you ask, which you can add to her "do not talk about" list), add your location (for questions relevant to your location such as the weather) and the volume and length of answer from Cayla (she can really go on if you'll let her!).

My friend Cayla, technology toy, Toy of the year 2014
Abby: Awww I lost again!
Play games with Cayla:

This is Abby's favourite thing to do with Cayla - play Tic Tac Toe. By chance, Cayla will make logical, and sometimes illogical moves. It's because of this, Abby felt like she is playing with a real person, hence is more interested to keep playing with Cayla. I really hope that there will be more games adding under this section soon, although her main function isn't this of course.

Chatting with Cayla:

If you have used Android speech recognition app or Siri from iOS before, you'll understand how Cayla works. I'm not sure how Cayla compares to either of those app, but she is definitely safer for children to use as she has her own software system called Violet, which has added security and blocks inappropriate contents to protect your child from the vast Internet. You can read more about her system here.

The thing that Cayla does not do is answer questions such as:
"Do you think Clay is cute?" or "If I eat a piece of sweety do you think the tooth fairy will know?"

You might laugh but so far, the people who have met our Cayla for the first time, including my husband and Abby herself, have all asked something along that line, and thought that Cayla isn't very clever when she responded with something like "I do not know that answer."

Cayla is designed to hear a question with specific word(s), and search through the Internet (safely) like Google search or Wikipedia to find the answer. It is best to ask her short, to the point questions such as the ones we used in the videos -

"What is a Spider?"
"Have you heard of Toy Story?"

or even
"Can you tell me the story of Snow White?"

and
"Can you tell me what the weather is like?" (with location set and GPS turned on)

but not
"Christmas gifts for dads"

Homework/ Learning with Cayla:

So, basically, your child can use Cayla as a dictionary to find a word they don't understand through her. They can also ask her geographical question such as "Where is Lancashire" and she will answer that too.

The only thing we haven't succeeded much is asking her numeracy questions such as "What is 6 plus 4". I thought that she has given me a correct answer once, unless my memory have failed me. I will try this again, but how you ask a question does seem to affect how she answers as well. It would be great if Cayla can answer numerical questions like that, but then it will also defeat the purpose of helping your child to learn instead of giving them the answer for their homework!

Successful conversations with Cayla:

Before we understood Cayla well enough, we have encountered some problems, but we have found the following the best (and logical) way to communicate with Cayla to solve those problems:

- although Cayla can block some of the background noise, it is best to speak to Cayla in a quieter environment, which is exactly the environment your child will choose to role play with any other dolls
- only one person should talk to her at a time, just like how you would talk to your smartphone speech recognition app, or type in the words on your computer's search engine
- talk to her with confidence, at a steady speed and pronounce your words clearly. You might find yourself talking to her like a robot at first and speaking really closely into the gadget, but with practise you will soon be talking to her normally (fast talking and jumbling your words together isn't very good even during a human to human conversation) and she will understand you
- accent isn't a big problem as long as you pronounce your words clearly (great phonics practice for the kids!)

As I said, it is actually very easy and in a logical way to play with Cayla, but a lot of people expect her to be much more than she is, and become disappointed that she didn't perform as expected. To be fair, technology nowadays does allow her to be designed into something more, like Siri who is programmed to give you cheeky answers, but that will confuse a child, and Siri's opinion isn't necessary something I'd like my children to listen to.

I found Cayla a perfect companion for children to learn, especially when they are reading books and came across something they don't understand, or even a word they heard on their favourite TV program and would like to investigate more. I just need to move Cayla to a freely available gadget so Abby can set Cayla up herself without using my phone!

Both Abby and Clay love Cayla, whether it is to play with or just to cuddle (Clay couldn't stop kissing her haha). She is a very clever doll, and I haven't seen Abby enjoy playing with a doll like this before. With the free app that the developers are constantly working on with updates, Cayla will never be that boring doll that does the same thing over and over again, and I'm sure there will be more games added to make play time with Cayla more fun.

I think for parents, it will be very helpful if the company that created Cayla can provide us a list of preset words that Cayla isn't allowed to talk about. For times when Cayla said she's not allowed to talk about something, or she doesn't know the answer, we will know whether it's because she is banned from talking about it. It will also be helpful if the company can tell us what they have done for each update on the app description page.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend Cayla as the doll to buy for this Christmas or even birthday. And don't forget that she's not just a doll for girls, Cayla is so helpful we should not pass down our prejudice and leave the boys out from enjoying the benefits Cayla bring to this new era.

New Fisher-Price Octonauts Toy - Gup-S Polar Exploration Vehicle

Octonauts toy, Gup S Polar Exploration Vehicle, Christmas Gifts for children

We received our first ever Fisher-price Octonaut toy when Abby was 3 and was really into Octonauts. She has asked Santa for the Octopod, and she was such a happy babe when she's received it from him!

When Clay started loving Octonauts (and really loving it!), she has kindly let him take over her favourite Christmas present, and our collection of Octonauts toys has been growing ever since. You can see the collection in our previous review for Tweak's Octo Max Suit, plus Gup-E and Gup-B that Clay received for his 3rd Birthday after the review. We should have taken another picture but the toys are scattered now as we are half packing!

Knowing Clay's passion for The Octonauts, the lovely people at Mattel has kindly sent him the latest Octonauts toy to review - Gup-S Polar Exploration Vehicle, and oh my it is so cool!

This is one of the times when I wish I had a camera facing my child when they first saw something they love. Clay spotted Gup-S sitting on the window sill (where I left it after taking pictures) when he came home from nursery and he went: "WHAAAWW!" That look was absolutely priceless! The picture above was taken when he ran to the Gup-S and played with it for the first time. At least I caught something on camera!

Octonauts toy, Gup S Polar Exploration Vehicle, Christmas Gifts for children

The Octonauts Gup-S Polar Exploration Vehicle appeared in episode 6 of The Over, Under Adventure series. The Fisher-Price toy is retailed at £34.99, suitable for 3 years plus and comes with 3 AAA batteries. The play set includes Gup-S, Captain Barnacles in a snow suit, Narwhal, 2 mini-skis, three interchangable tools and an iceberg.

Octonauts toy, Gup S Polar Exploration Vehicle, Christmas Gifts for children

The Gup-S, like the one in the show, can be split into 2 vehicles - Octo-sled (head of the Gup-S) and Octo-Shuttle (body of the Gup-S). When the Octo-Sled is being removed and attached back to the Octo-Shuttle, it will activate the light, sound and phrases. You can also activate it by pressing the red button on the side of the Octo-Shuttle (see below). The retractable treads will pop open when the red button is pressed as well.

Note: Abby discovered the obvious, that pressing down the tail will lift the lid (Command Centre) easier. Silly mummy!

As mentioned in our previous review, we noticed that Fisher-Price has been improving their designs for easier play. With Gup-A we had to help Clay fix the windscreen all the time. The shield for Gup B and E were sturdier, and the one for the Octo Max Suit was strongest and hasn't fallen off at all.

The Gup-S however, doesn't have a shield. Judging from its design, if it does have one, it might be one of those that will become loose and fall off as well. We don't mind really, it looks more realistic with the shield, but not too big a problem without it. It's more convenient for Clay to reach inside as well.

Clay absolutely love the Gup-S and it makes a really cool addition to all the other Gups he has! We love the light and sound, and how each part functions. The mini-skis are cute and fun to play with too. The night he received the Gup-S, he wanted a bath with it! It's definitely not recommended as it will ruin the light and sound function, but I let him bring the mini-skis, barnacle and the narwhal in, and he was really happy! I just wish I took a video of him seeing the Gup-S for the first time!

I think Gup-S will make any Octonaut fans really happy this Christmas. Do you have an Octonauts fan at home as well?

Abby's New Bedroom

rainbow colour children bedroom, children bedroom decoration, interior design

I think it's safe to officially announce that we are in the process of moving house. With 2 growing children, there just isn't enough space in our 2 bedroom house anymore.

When we were looking around at show homes, we took note of a lot of decoration and design ideas of how we wanted our future home look like. Abby has taken a great interest in one of the girly bedroom as it is decorated with all the colours of the rainbow, and she said that instead of having one colour, she wanted them all.

I really liked that room too so I had a look around the Internet, and found a lot of items that will fit to her theme, which is rainbow colour, flower and butterfly.

I decided that the furniture should remain white to balance the colour chaos. Abby loves sparkly things as well, so I thought that Next's Ella set will work great in her room as it comes with crystal-like drawer knobs. The other items on the list are:

multi-colour Gypsie Chandelier
multi-colour Stripy Wallpaper
3D Butterfly Stickers
purple Flower Bedding
green Flower Rug
light pink Crystal Side Lamp

I think everything fits perfectly together apart from the pumpkin carriage lamp in the picture. It's really really cute but I'm not 100% sure about it. Otherwise I think that this will be the prettiest and most interesting room in our house! I can't wait to put it together!

Having blogged for 3 years (Oh My God I think I missed my Blogaversary which was in September!), I barely did any videos that involves me talking in the clip, let alone being filmed in it as well. To me, it's a scary experience (what if I look bad/ stutter/ "erm" a lot/ sound funny/ etc etc), even though I'm actually just talking to a camera.

However, I know vlogging is really the way to go if I want to push my blog further. Have you seen the number of views on a good YouTube video? They can reach over hundreds of thousands of views within weeks, and if I can create a successful video clip, it can provide another dimension for my reviews and posts too.

online video for business, vlogging guide, successful video marketing
1st edition, signed by Nigel Camp himself too!
Note: This isn't the copy you will be buying. Please see below for the latest edition
Last year, I met a really nice guy called Nigel Camp at BritMum Live! 2013 (and this year too). He was a speaker for the video sessions, and I must say that they were an eye opener. Within the hour long sessions, I understood why a successful vlogger always have enough lights around them (without the big umbrella type reflector and giant floor lights!), good camera angle and sitting/ camera position, plus clean background. It's all down to good research and well planning before taking that video (with your Smartphone!).

Obviously I was one of the lucky bloggers who got to watch him demonstrate live, but he's also released a book called The Video Effect in 2013, and has recently launched its latest edition as well that you can buy from Amazon, or have it on Kindle. If you have a business that requires marketing (which business doesn't?) and you'd like to know more about video marketing and why it's an efficient way to help your business, this is the book for you.

The Video Effect by Nigel Camp (£10.00 Paperback or £4.42 Kindle version) is a user friendly, easy to read but not lacking professionalism guide to effectively market your business through online videos.

It explains why online videos are more and more important as a successful marketing tool, and how it works with social media (which is a very important key to a successful business including blogging nowadays). It also provides advice on how to choose your video equipment for different budgets and how to choose your video editing software as well.

I like it that, even though Nigel is a professional himself (he's the person behind devilboyproductions.com), he covers different budget range for his recommendations to suit different business plans, so you won't just see him recommending the top of the range equipments and softwares.

His book also covers how online video can help with a business' SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), how to increase exposure for your video, the need to connect your video with your website/ blog, how to film a successful video and learn advertising techniques used by advertising companies.

His book is very useful to us bloggers, as a blog is only small, and we need to do quite a fair bit of work to get our blog seen by many. A lot of the time, professionals like to recommend expensive, over the top equipments and filming environment that we simply can't afford/ don't have. With Nigel's advice, I know that I can film a good enough video with my camera's HD video function, or even my phone's if I'm out and about, and there are a lot of free apps/ software for post-editing too.

I've also learned how to plan the filming and maximise exposure after the video has been uploaded. After all that hard work, you want it to be seen by as many people as possible of course.

I just have to pick up the courage to vlog!

Don't forget you can get Nigel's book on Amazon/ Amazon UK and download it to your Kindle too.

Fireman Sam Ocean Rescue Playset, Christmas Gift Ideas, Fireman Sam

As a blogger who works on Christmas Gifts Guides, Christmas always arrive early. If we aren't moving soon I might just put our Christmas decorations up!

So here is Clay getting spoiled again in September with one of his favourite program, Fireman Sam's toy - Fireman Sam Ocean Rescue Playset. It's definitely the Christmas gift option I'd go for for any Fireman Sam's fan!

Fireman Sam Ocean Rescue Playset, Christmas Gift Ideas, Fireman Sam

The Fireman Sam Ocean Rescue Playset (rrp £34.99, suitable for children age 3 years+) comes with the Ocean Rescue Centre, Fireman Sam and Juno Jet Ski. The tower and slidable heli-pad (each takes 2 AAA batteries) are both removable and comes with flashing lights, and the tower also comes with a siren. Juno Jet Ski can be launched through the spring loaded Jet Ski launcher, and the Tower and Fireman's Pole can both work (see video below for demonstration).

Clay really likes the set. He especially love to launch Fireman Sam and Juno with the Jet Ski launcher and he couldn't stop giggling every time they shoot off!

Initially I was a bit confused with the heli-pad as no helicopter came with the playset, but then I noticed that the Fireman Sam range is fairly big and one of the toy in the range is the helicopter Hook (rrp £9.99) that will sit perfectly on the heli-pad.

The Siren is a pretty cool and realistic feature, but can be a bit too much if it kept going. Simply press the light button again to make it stop. On the other hand, the Heli-pad's quiet flashing light is much easier to be overlooked at and left on even though there is an on/ off switch on the side.

We are very happy with the playset, and can see all the other Fireman Sam's fans loving it too. There is plenty of features on the Ocean Rescue Centre to keep Clay busy, and even if we don't have the helicopter, it didn't bother him at all. In fact, if I am to buy him additional toys for the playset, I'd go for more figures so Clay can play out some of the scenes from the show (he loves doing that!). Norman Price and Elvis will definitely be on the top of that list!

Time to Think About Hair Care

There comes a stage when everyone, no matter how well they looked after themselves, has to admit that they are getting/ feeling old. I started feeling like that when I hit 30, and I noticed that it took me longer to recover from a flu, and my skin and hair just don't look good anymore.

I didn't care much then as I was happily devoting all my attention to Abby, and I was pregnant with Clay as well. But after about a year, I started getting worried about my hair. It's normal to lose a lot of hair after childbirth, but because I was (and still am) also suffering from Seborrhoeic Dermatitis, I thought I was going bald. I did go to see a doctor about it finally, but my priority was still my children and the damage to my hair from years of not looking after myself is definitely showing, and now my hair is thin and sad looking.

Recently I started paying more attention to myself, and now have a really complicated skincare regime that I might post about another day as it's so long! My skin is looking great though, and I think it's time to sort my hair out, if it's not too late!

For hair beauty products, apart from the treatment given by the doctor, I'm also using the hair care products I've received from Memeboxes. Don't brush Korean products off quickly, as far as I know, hair (and skin) beauty technology is more advanced in Asia. Heard of permanent hair straightening? I started having it done on my hair 14 years ago.

Next, all I need is a good hair cut. I was due a cut 2 months ago and I really should stick to the schedule if I want healthy looking hair, it's just that I have to go all the way to Manchester to get it done because a lot of hairdressers just can't do what I'd like them to do (and it's hardly a difficult style!). It took me years to finally find a really good local hairdresser (ie not Chinese, which I'd have to go to London for as the Manchester one is just.. urgh!!) who actually gave me the hair cut I asked for.

If you are based in the North West I highly recommend MUFTI in Manchester. Claire was absolutely wonderful, and impressed me with the way she used her scissors. I had someone from a posh looking salon cutting my hair like he would with paper, and I ended up with chunky cut strands of hair that I specifically told him not to do! Anyway, I'll have to pay her a visit very soon and I think I'll opt for that first hairstyle above, I just love the fringe, layers and even the colour, although I think colouring my hair isn't really a good idea in case it irritates my scalp further.

I'm actually surprised that MUFTI didn't get nominated in this year's prestigious British Hairdressing Business Awards. I really think that they deserve at least a nomination. They have a lot of great reviews and I haven't seen any negative ones yet, whereas there was plenty for Tony & Guy.

As for those living in London, if you are looking for hairdressers in Islington, you should give The Chapel a visit. They are this year's biggest winner at the awards as they snapped up 2 pretty important prizes. I had a look on the Internet and there were lots of great reviews online, proving that they definitely deserved it. My favourite is this review, written by Sally from Queenie and The Dew. The way Georgia cut her hair is exactly the way Hong Kong hair dressers would do to make thick coarse hair look thinner and tamed. I need the opposite though, however, if I live in London, I'd definitely pay them a visit. But I don't, and I'm just happy that I at least found one nearer to home that I can trust without having to leg it all the way to London!

Back to hair care, what's your beauty regime? I'd love to hear how you keep your hair looking alive and fizz free!

Teksta Robot Kitty

Robot toy for children, Teksta Robot Kitty, animal toy

Ever since our hamster Hammy has passed away, Abby has always wanted another pet, and apparently fish and shrimps doesn't really count ("They are Daddy's pets!"). There is a lot involved in looking after a pet though, so we wanted to make sure that she knows exactly what she is getting herself into first (she was too young when we had Hammy).

Her dream kind of came true when we were sent a Teksta Robot Kitty to play with, which is just like a real pet but with minimum maintenance. If she can look after this kitty well, we might just grant her her true wish (if she still wants to).

Teksta Robot Kitty (4th generation Teksta robot pet RRP £59.99, suitable for children aged 5 years+) is an 8 weeks old kitty (I heard that the more you train her the cleverer she gets) and comes with a robot mouse (3 x LR44 batteries included) and a fairly detailed, easy to follow manual. Kitty requires 4 x AA batteries that are not included.

Kitty (Abby named ours Candy) is an artificial intelligence robot pet. She can meow, cry, whine and change her eye patterns to show you how she's feeling, and her sensors allow her to know if she's being petted, fed, talked to, played with and getting close to an obstacle while walking, as well as sensing the time of the day (if it gets dark she will go to sleep).

Note the robot mouse that is stuck on Candy's mouth
For basic training, your voice, hand gesture and her robot mouse will be sufficient enough to do several tricks:

Sniffing - by pressing something against her nose
Listening - she'll walk towards any sound
Eating - by placing the robot mouse against her mouth
Purring - when you stroke her head
Stand Up - using the robot mouse to make kitty stand up and paw at the mouse
Pouncing - either by using hand gesture or using the robot mouse

Converseby pressing the cogwheel button on her head and she will talk (meowing) to you when you talk to her
Dance to a Tune - by pressing the musical note button on her head once or twice (there are 2 song and dance routine)

Note that Teksta Robot pets doesn't walk really well on carpets, especially thick ones.
You can do even more advanced training with Kitty if you have an iPad with iOS 5.0 or above, or tablets with Android 3.0 or above. Do note that some functions might not work with older devices (Our Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn't seem to function very well with Kitty, I guess it's time to upgrade!).

Using the tablet, you can:

- Make Kitty sing and dance
- Control the amount of meowing she does
- Control how active she should be
- Make Kitty do tricks with her eyes, tail and meowing
- Feed Kitty other kind of food
- Set alarm to make kitty alert you
- allow kitty to communicate with other Teksta Robot pets
- create new songs for Kitty to sing

and the most exciting thing

- teach Kitty a new dance move (including eye motions, movements and meowing at the moments you specify)

I was going to film some of Kitty's action, but then I found the following video and I know that I can't possibly show you how cool Kitty is better than this video. It's very true to the real kitty so I decided to embed the video here for you to see.

For a small kitten (8 weeks old too!) she's one clever babe! Initially I thought that the robotic movement noise (aren't movies realistic? Robots really do make those noise!) would be distracting, but I think the noise is more enhanced in videos, as it's actually not too bad in real life.

Candy is really adorable (in the loveliest colour too!), and Abby couldn't conceal her excitement when we opened the parcel. Initially she thought that it was a puppy but as soon as she saw Candy, she made a little jump and said "OOoo! It's a Kitty!! Yayy!!"

Abby learned how to play with Candy really quickly, and she was so excited when Candy responded to her when she said "Come here Candy!". Even Clay is in love and will find every opportunity to play with her.  Both children are impressed with what Candy can do, and after playing with Candy for a while, we started treating her like she's a real pet. I think it's because she responded so well to our touches and when we talked to her.

Our main problem with Candy is that we couldn't really understand what emotions she is expressing with her eyes (we only know what it's like when she's happy). I found the above image for Teksta Robot Puppy on the Internet, but I'm not sure whether it'll be the same for Kitty, so we'll just use it as a guideline for now, but I'm sure we'll get to know her better in time.

The great thing about Teksta Robot Kitty is that you don't have to clean, walk or potty train her, nor do you have to worry about fleas, hairballs, disease and illness, accidents when she's out and about and starvation (you do have to feed her at least once a day to keep her happy but it's super easy and there won't be any dead bodies on your carpet!). Ok, I wouldn't really say that you should replace a real pet with a Teksta Robot pet, but it's definitely a great way to train children to look after a pet and be responsible for them, instead of jumping straight to a live pet and you the parent have to do all the training and maintenance.

If your child is wishing for a pet this Christmas, why not consider giving them a Teksta Robot pet instead? They also have 3 types of puppies and a T-Rex too!
